During the upgrade of VMware VCSA 7.0 Update 2, I came across some issues with the Stage Only and Stage and Install tabs. My intent was to stage fist however I was presented with the “Exception occurred in install precheck phase”. So, the work around that I found with the help of some google searches brought me to the below recommendation that included removing the or clearing out all of the stale entries in the cashe of the below locations.
Note:
Before applying this clean up task take a Snapshot of your VCSA
Fix Action
# logging into the shell
Shell.set –enabled true
shell
# Commands to clean up
rm -rf /storage/core/software-update/updates
rm -rf /storage/updatemgr/software-*
rm /etc/applmgmt/appliance/software_update_state.conf
rm /storage/db/patching.db*
rm -r /storage/core/software-update/*
Once you have completed the above cleanup task refresh your browser and you should now be able to stage the new software update
To go even further with your troubleshooting the logs associated with the VCSA can be found at /var/log/vmware and the related logs for Appliance Management are in the applmgmt folder.
Note: VMware has released KB (83145) in response to this bug.
