When troubleshooting VMware related problems, you may want to familiarize yourself with some common ESXCLI commands you can run in the shell of your Host. This post is going to equip you with the basics of getting around and becoming comfortable with some common commands to gain insight into your ESXi Host. Note the ESXi Shell is disabled by default. You must enable the ESXi Shell before you can run commands in the shell. This is accomplished by starting the SSH service in the security section of your host. Note, SSH should only be accessible when you are troubleshooting.
The below screen shot is an example of typing ESXCLI, this will provide you a list of all available options and available namespaces. This can prove to be a great guide in accomplishing whatever task you have or get you in the right direction anyway.
